Many individuals are already contemplating plans and aspirations for the next year, 2020, as New Year's Eve draws near. One of the most popular goals is to read more books. Perhaps you fell short of your reading goal for the year. Perhaps you have a problem with your growing list of books to read. Perhaps you didn't read much this year but have high hopes for your progress in the next year. Whatever your reading resolution for 2020 may be, I hope these suggestions will help you stick to it.
Sometimes when I tell people how many books I read in a year (around 150), they express surprise. One person even joked, "Do you have more than 24 hours in a day?" Can you explain that? You can increase your book consumption; trust me on that. It only takes some effort and, well, more reading.
By following the advice below, you may find time to read more, avoid burnout, and advance in your career. It's important to remember that universal solutions seldom exist. Get some ideas for new books to read from this list, but don't feel obligated to follow any of the suggestions. Keep in mind that reading should be a pleasurable experience. To that end, I pray that this list assists you in achieving your reading goals.

1. Make reading a regular habit in your life.
Spending more time reading is the most reliable technique to increase one's reading rate over time. Do you think it's simple? If you want to maintain your New Year's resolve to read more books, the easiest way to do so is to make reading part of your daily routine. Read in the morning as you sip your coffee, spend 30 minutes before night reading, or read during your lunch break. If you commit to making reading a consistent part of your routine, it will eventually become second nature.

Learn to multitask
There's just so much time in a day. However, your time is worth twice as much if you learn to multitask. Try reading a book while you're traveling or waiting for an appointment. Working out, making food, cleaning, and even strolling are all activities that I like doing while reading or listening to books. Keep the most difficult reading for times when you can give it your full attention.
3. KEEP A BOOK IN HAND
With a good book to read, you'll never have to waste time. Having a book on hand may help you make the most of otherwise wasted time throughout the day. The time spent waiting for the bus, in the checkout line, or at the doctor's office, or even on a lengthy elevator trip, are all excellent chances to read a little bit more. I suggest having an e-reader or reading app on your phone if you don't want toting around heavy books.
4. INSTITUTE OBJECTIVES
Setting a reading goal is a great way to increase your book consumption. Having a target in sight is a great way to keep yourself motivated and on course. Keeping tabs on your progress toward your goal is easy with the Goodreads Reading Challenge. But make sure it's a goal you can really achieve; setting an impossible target will simply serve to dampen your enthusiasm.
5: LEARN TO READ WITH YOUR EARS
Using an audiobook is not a form of cheating. A good book may be enjoyed in a variety of formats, and audiobooks are only one of them. Having an audiobook to listen to allows you to do so much more. An audiobook is a convenient kind of entertainment for a wide range of situations. Further, it's an excellent strategy for warding off eye strain that might develop from reading lengthy texts on paper or a screen for an extended period of time. I would suggest trying out an audiobook for the first time, if you haven't already done so, by listening to a memoir by a famous author you respect, such as Gabrielle Union's We're Going to Need More Wine. Instead, try something like Samantha Irby's We Are Never Meeting in Real Life, a collection of essays and short tales that may be listened to in smaller chunks of time.
6. MERGE GENRES
The book hangover occurs when you finish a fantastic book and don't have the motivation to go on to the next one. Changing the genre I'm reading from time to time helps me keep up my reading speed and prevents me from getting book hangovers bing maps. Recently complete an excellent science fiction series? Continue with some genuine crime. Stuck on the last love story you read? You may next read a humorous autobiography. It's a good way to stay alert. Even better, it prevents you from making unfair comparisons between works in the same genre and clears up any ambiguity about works with comparable plots or characters.
7.Take part in a reading group.
The accountability provided by a book club may be invaluable in maintaining a reading habit. Before anything else, having a book club meeting on a certain day forces you to commit to reading the book in question. Second, book clubs are a fantastic venue for socializing around shared interests in reading and discussing the books that members have chosen to read. Third, the pressure of "what should I read next?" that can prevent you from reading regularly is alleviated when books are chosen for you by a book club.
