Signs It’s Time to Assess Your Anxiety Levels

Stress is a part of life. You feel nervous or worried before a meeting, an important exam, or a life change. However, if you constantly feel overwhelmed or have a sharp pain in your chest, it is more than temporary stress. Recognizing when to stop and assess your anxiety levels is vital for better mental well-being. Here are a few signs it's time for an anxiety self-assessment test.
Persistent and hard-to-control
Do you wonder and worry about worst-case scenarios, or can you stop worrying? It could be a real threat of an anxiety disorder. If the worry doesn’t stop after the problem is resolved or an event is passed, you must evaluate it further.
Physical symptoms
Anxiety shows physical signs with symptoms like headache, nausea, racing heart, sharp pain in the chest, muscle tension, and shortness of breath. If you visit your doctor and still don’t see any cause of your symptoms, chances are you have an anxiety disorder.
If you don’t wish to visit a doctor, you can take a self-assessment test using the GAD-7 anxiety questionnaire. This form is the creation of Drs. Robert L. Spitzer, Janet B.W. Williams, Kurt Kroenke, and colleagues assessed anxiety. It is designed to run on a browser to fill in your data anonymously. Furthermore, no human can access, view, or evaluate your response on this form.
Avoiding social or daily activities
Do you consistently avoid daily interactions like meeting friends, running errands, or going to work? It is time for a self-assessment test. Avoidance provides a short-term escape but escalates anxious behaviour over time.
Irritability or restlessness
Do you find yourself more on the edge than usual? Are you snapping more often at people around you? Or are you feeling restless even after a long downtime? These are signs of underlying anxiety. It signifies your brain is constantly alert, making it harder to regulate emotions.
Trouble sleeping or concentrating
Anxiety interferes with sleep, making it harder to fall asleep and feel restless even after a whole night’s sleep. It increases frustration, decreases productivity, and makes it harder to focus.
